Electricity Consumption

Pakistan incorporates great amount of energy resources. The amount of electricity produced includes comparatively sizable natural gas reserves, some oil reserves, coal and hydropower potential. Though there are many resources for production of electricity the development of energy resources is very slow. Pakistan produces its own petroleum only half of the total demand of it by the people of Pakistan. The use of compressed natural gas is extensive in Pakistan more than any other country in world.
It is used their especially for personal automobiles. Good amount of oil is imported to Pakistan from the oil rich countries. As announced by the present government of Pakistan there will be privatization in the oil and gas sector which can proof great help in meeting the demands of electricity by extensive production of power.

Like different other countries of world the major electric consumption in Pakistan is done in domestic commodities and durable goods like refrigerators, washing machines and split air conditioners. According to the statistical record the electricity consumption in Pakistan is like:

Electricity - consumption: 74.62 TWh (2004)
Electricity - exports: 0%
Electricity - imports: 0%
Electricity Consumption per Capita = 345.00 kWh/capita

Since the demand of electricity is increasing rapidly because of the increasing population this demand can be met in tow ways. By constructing large scale centralized projects to generate and transmit the electricity required to fuel economies. These projects could result serious environmental problems such as air or radiation pollution and the flooding of large areas of land.

For years, the matter of balancing Pakistan’s electricity generation for both domestic and foreign investors has remained like an unsolved problem the country faces immense problems in renovating its network which is responsible for electricity supply. Due to inadequate generation of electricity the country face frequent power cuts. Many measures have been taken to fulfill the demand for electricity in Pakistan still there is failure in meeting the challenge.
