Most of the countries distribute electricity after producing it in 3 different kinds of utilities which include investor owned, cooperative and municipal. Some countries also generate electricity by generation and transmission. Extensive amount of power is also generated by the government from dams and independent power producers. Pakistan is a vast country with huge population Hence the demand of electricity is also great. Pakistan has extensive energy resources. The major resources include natural gas, oil reserves, coal and a large hydropower potential. Instead of these extensive resources, the development of energy resources has been limited mainly because of shortage of capital and domestic political constraints. |

The country has a total production of petroleum only about half of the country’s requirement of oil. The country gets a good amount of imported oil and on that basis the reigning government has announced that there will be privatization in the oil and gas sector. The privatization will proof great help especially in the production of power. Pakistan is dominant in using compressed natural gas especially for personal automobiles. It has been found that use of electricity has radically improved in last few years. This could be proved by the sudden increment in the sales of durable goods like refrigerators, washing machines and split air conditioners.
